Happy anniversary Gears fans! Today marks the ninth year since Gears of War’s original release date of November 6th 2006, and we couldn’t be more excited to mark yet another year in the life of the series. We wanted to take the opportunity today to celebrate the past, present and future of Gears of War with a number of announcements and new details.
To celebrate the ninth anniversary of the original Gears of War, we’ll be launching Ultimate Edition Double XP in all playlists from November 6th at 12pm PDT until Tuesday 11th November at 12pm PDT.
We know many of our fans loved to play high rounds to win Execution matches with fast self-revives on the original Gears of War. This weekend only, Warzone will be replaced with the Classic: Execution special event playlist, bringing with it with 5 second self-revives, and a first to 10 rounds win requirement.
We are also excited to share that we’re working on updating our Playlist Map Rotations in the future, which we know has been a hotly requested feature in the community. We’ll now be tailoring the map rotation to offer fan favorite maps more often, and change the general overall order to keep things varied.
Finally, our bi-weekly release of Special Events continues on November 20th 2015 when Brothers to the End makes its debut on Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
Beginning on November 13th, we’ll be asking you to share your favorite franchise moments, creations, screenshots and videos in our #9YearsofGears competition! Over the coming weeks, we’ll showcase entries highlighting what you love about Gears of War across our social media channels, and be handing out a ton of community prizes in the process.

- In our official forums competition thread, found HERE.
Sharing any content related to Gears of War in either of those two locations provides the opportunity to be “spot prized” by The Coalition for your efforts! Prizes will range from our community weapon skins to physical swag – it’s all a surprise as to what you might get awarded. You can also enter as many times as you’d like!
